Why Is IREN Stock Surging on Tuesday?
Share
Listen to the news

IREN Ltd (NASDAQ:IREN) stock traded higher on Tuesday, moving ahead of its upcoming earnings report and a broader cryptocurrency rally. The Nasdaq is up 0.65% while the S&P 500 has gained 0.27% and Technology is leading sectors with a 0.96% gain.

A primary catalyst for the stock’s upward movement is Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) trading near the $80,000 threshold. As a high-beta stock linked to crypto mining, IREN is tracking the broader cryptocurrency momentum alongside industry peers.

Upcoming Earnings Expectations

IREN reports its fiscal fourth quarter of 2026 financial results on Thursday after the closing bell. Wall Street expects a loss of 49 cents per share on revenue of $142.32 million. These projections contrast with earnings of 66 cents per share and revenue of $187.30 million from the prior-year period. This expected shift in profitability highlights the significance of management commentary regarding capacity, utilization and future earnings stability.

Options Market Signals Volatility

Options contracts are pricing in a 12.50% move in IREN’s stock following the report, implying approximately $1.96 billion in market value at stake against the company’s roughly $15.7 billion market capitalization.

IREN owns and operates renewable-powered data centers in Canada and the U.S. for bitcoin mining and AI cloud infrastructure. The stock maintains a Buy consensus rating and trades below its 180-day average price forecast. In July, HC Wainwright & Co. reiterated a Buy rating and raised its price forecast, while Canaccord Genuity also reiterated a Buy rating on the stock.

Technical Analysis

IREN is trading about 3.9% above its 20-day SMA ($40.51), but it remains about 1.8% below its 50-day SMA ($42.87) and more than 9% below its 200-day SMA ($46.31), so the bigger-picture trend is still trying to repair. The death cross that formed in August (50-day SMA below the 200-day SMA) keeps the intermediate trend biased lower until price can reclaim and hold those longer averages.

Momentum is best read through RSI, which sits at 50.33—basically neutral—showing the stock isn’t stretched and has room to move either way as traders react to nearby levels.

  • Key Resistance: $43.50
