With EPS Growth And More, KE Holdings (NYSE:BEKE) Makes An Interesting Case

Listen to the news

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, so investors in these companies may be taking on more risk than they should.

Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like KE Holdings (NYSE:BEKE). While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

How Fast Is KE Holdings Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

KE Holdings has undergone a massive growth in earnings per share over the last three years. So much so that this three year growth rate wouldn't be a fair assessment of the company's future. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. KE Holdings boosted its trailing twelve month EPS from CN¥3.06 to CN¥3.77, in the last year. There's little doubt shareholders would be happy with that 23% gain.

One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. While we note KE Holdings achieved similar EBIT margins to last year, revenue grew by a solid 36% to CN¥100b. That's encouraging news for the company!

Are KE Holdings Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Since KE Holdings has a market capitalisation of US$21b, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a large percentage of shares. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. Notably, they have an enviable stake in the company, worth CN¥1.8b. This suggests that leadership will be very mindful of shareholders' interests when making decisions!

Should You Add KE Holdings To Your Watchlist?

One positive for KE Holdings is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. To add an extra spark to the fire, significant insider ownership in the company is another highlight. These two factors are a huge highlight for the company which should be a strong contender your watchlists. Of course, just because KE Holdings is growing does not mean it is undervalued. There's always the possibility of doing well buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares.
